Georgette C.R. Johnson

PARLIAMENTARIAN

First published at age 10, Georgette serves as parliamentarian on the Detroit NABJ executive board. She is also programming committee chair, past Vice President – Broadcast and past Deputy Regional Director.

Georgette is Press Secretary for the City of Detroit as spokesperson for two City departments: Public Works and Buildings Safety, Engineering and Environmental. She has more than 30 years of uniquely varied expertise in areas of media, marketing, community and public relations, crisis management, event planning, government, education, grant writing as well as insurance and financial services.

Past positions include Strategic Relationship Manager for DivDat Corporation, Executive Editor-General Manager for the Michigan Chronicle, Director of Communications for the Detroit Housing Commissions, City of Pontiac Press Secretary and Director of Communications for the Pontiac School District. Georgette’s experience began at WJBK-TV2. She spent 13 award-winning years at WWJ Newsradio 950 holding every position from news producer to assignment editor to executive producer of special projects & events and assistant operations manager. She has handled public relations for corporations such as McDonald’s©. Georgette has Homeland Security training and certification through the National Emergency Training Center in Emmitsburg, MD.

Georgette is a graduate of Wayne State University’s Journalism Institute for Media Diversity, an honors program. She is member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
