Inspiring and supporting Black male journalists was the focus of the 2022 Black Male Media Project of the National Association of Black Journalists and chapters across the country on June 11. Detroit NABJ explored the issue with the event “Are We There Yet? Finding Equity in Metro Detroit Newsrooms” at the Northwest Activities Center in Detroit.

The two-hour discussion was moderated by Michigan Chronicle digital anchor Andre Ash, and panelists were chapter members Luther Keith, Darren Nichols, Jakkar Aimery, Bryce Huffman, Ken Coleman and Aaron Amos. Jeremy Thomas and Clifton Kirkman served as event co-chairs.

Panelist Darren Nichols best summed up the moment: “Equity looks like what we see right here.”
